Research

This site uses the research and data kindly provided by Dan Eaton, from his 2007 book ‘The Men from Clayton Who Died In The Two World Wars’ with additional research from John Lynch.

Please note that Dans research was done mostly in Bradford public library using microfiche records from local newspapers reporting on the death of soldiers and war graves commission records. The research does not benefit from the internet and the wealth of verified information available at the push of a button and some leaps of faith and incorrect connections may have been made. Apologies for any errors or omissions.

About Clayton

Clayton is a village on the outskirts of Bradford located in West Yorkshire. The village is a part of the expanding conurbation of Bradford, and manages to keep its village feel due to its pretty central green space; Victoria Park, its local shops, a thriving Village Hall and its imposing Parish Church. The church houses a splendid marble memorial to those who gave their lives in the Great War.

Clayton adjoins Queensbury Village and many men had families in both villages and so some are also mentioned on Queensbury memorials. You may want to visit Queensbury Remembers site to read about the men from Queensbury who fought in both world wars.
